Trusted experience

Dr Alison Lennox is a Consultant Neurodevelopmental Psychiatrist with specialist expertise in adult autism assessment, diagnosis, and support. She also works with individuals with other divergent neurotypes including AuDHD, and related mental and physical health conditions.

One of only a few UK psychiatrists focusing exclusively on adult autism, Alison offers private autism assessments for individuals aged 17 and over. Her approach combines clinical expertise with a compassionate understanding of how neurodivergence shapes part of everyday life.

Alison studied at the University of Cambridge, where she completed her undergraduate degree, before earning her medical degree at University College London. She undertook her psychiatric training in Oxford, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2014. She holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and is listed on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry with an endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry.

In addition to her private practice, Dr Alison is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry Special Interest Group. She previously served as Clinical Lead for an NHS Adult Autism Diagnostic Service and contributed to the National Autism Training Programme for Psychiatrists (NATPP), helping improve standards of care across the UK.

Neuroaffirmative approach

Alison is known for her compassionate, neuroaffirmative approach to care. She is deeply committed to providing comprehensive, person-centred assessments that respect and understand each individual’s unique experiences and needs.

Her assessments are careful, accurate, and thoughtful, with individualised recommendations designed to support people in everyday life - whether in relationships, in education or at work.

Alison has extensive experience in the interplay between autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent profiles, as well as the impact of co-occurring mental and physical health conditions. She recognises and values the diversity of autistic presentations, remaining attentive to the role of masking and the subtle ways it can influence how autism is expressed and understood.
